A city within the city of Athens for the refugees to be facilitated on their immigration journey. 

 

The project is a response to the European migrants’ crisis in 2015/16, which continues to be one of the most pressing problems in the world. It questions the general attitude of keeping refugees outside the city, which leads to uncontrolled overspill into public areas, causing conflict. The project does not pretend that shear tolerance is a viable solution, instead, it suggests a way of living through the intervention of architecture that balances coexistence and separation into one space. 

 

In terms of the design, the project adopted light-weight structures, which can be easily assembled and disassembled. The spaces can therefore be quickly deployed to reach the variable demands for each day and different seasons. And also, in contrast with the local housing typologies, the deployable feature of the pneumatic modular attempts to convey a transient nature to reflect the changing pattern of the refugee’s flows within the city.
